took place in the summer of 1998 in the sub- culture rock- palast "Paradiso" in Amsterdam, The Netherlands.
The first I heard, was a call from Eduard from the University of Amsterdam. He told me that he was engaged in a project that the Paradiso and the magazine Hacktik where putting together.
The big event was to take place in 2 weeks time, it was to be the first global get-together of computer- and technology freaks connect live through the Internet.
The technical infrastructure was being supplied by SUN, Atari, APPLE and a number of other Hardware comps.
The Dutch Telecom was in the progress of installing 25 phone-lines and connecting them to the SUN workstations in the basement. These UNIX workstations can service many terminals, the +/- 150 Ataris ST PCs, which were placed throughout the building, allowing Internet Access to that many users.
Caroline, of Paradiso, asked me during our first meeting if I could put the terminal wiring together, to which I, after some thinking, replied with a positive yes and went to work, ordering plugs and stuff... well I want bother you with all the gory details of wiring systems.
After a lot of soldering and testing all was well, electrons flowed freely through space and the Paradiso doors where to open soon. ...
